“Long-Lin Lablae,” the owner of a local cloth shop “Tawanchai Cotton” came up with the idea to incorporate the highlights of province into the patterns of the uniquely designed pants.

Many provinces are now making shirts and pants with printed patterns featuring local identities after the elephant-patterned pants of Chiang Mai and various designs of other provinces gain popularity among tourists.

Uttaradit province is no exception. The province is known for its local durian varieties, Long Lablae and Lin Lablae with its bright yellow tender flesh and sweet and creamy flavour with low odour. The fruit has become the print designs of popular lightweight pants.

Taking inspiration from the beauty of Muang Lablae’s city gates and the famous local durian variety “Long-Lin Lablae,” the owner of a local cloth shop “Tawanchai Cotton” came up with the idea to incorporate the highlights of province into the patterns of the uniquely designed pants.

Using soft, smooth, lightweight Italian silk fabric in brown tones, the pants are comfortable to wear without feeling hot or cramped. With combined patterns of local flowers and local woven fabric, it conveys the identity of her home province beautifully.

The “Long-Lin Lablae” pants, sold at 199 baht each, have gained significant interest from both Thai and foreign tourists who buy them as souvenirs from Thailand.  Some customers come to buy directly from the store, while others order online.

Now, the Long-Lin LabLae pants are hot items, creating jobs and income for housewives in the community who are part of the sewing group.

The shop is now creating a new collection set of casual short-sleeved Hawaiian shirt with both shorts and long pants to be available in May, featuring Long-Lin Lablae durian patterns in both peeled and unpeeled durian motifs, giving a fresh and appetizing look.

The new collection will be launched to coincide the Long-Lin Lablae durian season at a price of 499 baht per set, with the district chief as the brand ambassador, guaranteeing quality. (TNA)
