Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon advised the militaries Monday to offer complete security for Asean leaders who will go to a series of conferences hosted by Thailand as the chair of the local bloc throughout the year.

The guideline was provided at a Defence Council conference chaired by Gen Prawit in his capability as Defence Minister, Defence Ministry representative, Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantravanich, stated.

The representative stated that leaders and agents of Asean members and other nations outside the area will be welcomed to go to more than 180 conferences that will occur at different locations throughout the nation.

Gen Prawit said state companies should gain from “a lesson in the past”, stated Lt Gen Kongcheep. The representative was describing the mess in April 2009, when red-shirt protesters interrupted an Asean top in Pattaya, which required the evacuation of local leaders from the location.

On The Other Hand, the World Bank declared its assistance of Thailand’s chairmanship of Asean throughout a courtesy call to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs by Victoria Kwakwa, the World Bank’s vice-president for East Asia and the Pacific area, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday.
