A collection of cartoonish and childish paintings that bring a severe message will be showcased throughout “Alien Country” at Consume Me Dining Establishment from Wednesday to May 7.
This is a launching exhibit by Mongolrak Jutanont, a 36-year-old forensic artist who has actually invested 13 years providing hyper-real illustrations needed by the Crook Sketch Department of the Bangkok police.
In the program of his brand-new works, he looks for sanctuary from the severe, ordinary truths of daily life by venturing into alien worlds, where, he considers, “Could life be much better?”
He sees sex and sexuality as still mostly taboo topics in modern Thailand and uses pointed, entertaining commentary with the objective to normalise discussions around sex, sexuality and sexual equality.
In similar method as he might piece together visual aspects of a wrongdoer’s description, completing the information as the victim’s recollection allows, his art work start rather haphazardly too.
His procedure begins with the details of random aspects on the page, which, initially look, have no connection to each other. Gradually he completes the information, which is his ‘discussion’ with the page. This discussion continues till the entire image feels total and well balanced.
Although the works appear cartoonish initially look, his layering of patterns and designs contrasts starkly with a few of its material, which tapes sexual acts, planned to entertain instead of shock.
The artist intends to progress the discussion, promote much better sex education, and stimulate approval for the LGBTI neighborhood, while providing the message that, with consistent discussion, diverse entities can develop approval, consistency and cohesion for the improvement of society.
To commemorate the opening of this program, an unique mixed drink occasion will be hung on Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. A considerable part of art work sales on the night will be contributed to Swing, a Bangkok/Pattaya community-based group that supplies outreach and well-being services to adult home entertainment employees in Thailand.
Consume Me Dining Establishment is on Soi Phi Phat 2, off Convent Roadway and opens daily from 5pm to 1am.
