The shimmering sea waters of Jomtien Beach were ruined by a traumatic sight on Might 25, when an oil slick was seen drifting on its surface area. This discovery triggered beach umbrella operators to take instant action, momentarily suspending their services while waiting for support from Pattaya city authorities.
Madsa Ong-At, a 62-year-old beach umbrella-rental operator stated that at 7 a.m. that early morning, as he was preparing his beach umbrellas for the day’s operations, he spotted an unique odor of oil in the air. Captivated, he ventured towards the declining coastline and saw the oil slick drifting atop the water’s surface area.
Upon closer assessment, he saw that the oil slick had actually infected the sandy beach, extending roughly 50 to 100 meters into the sea. A strong and undesirable smell originated from the oil-slick dispersing over the surrounding location.
Alarmed by the prospective repercussions for the beach’s community and the wellness of visitors, Madsa and his fellow beach umbrella operators urgently interested the authorities to act immediately and fix the circumstance. As a preventive step, they jointly chose to suspend their beach umbrella services till the problem was dealt with, and the beach considered safe for travelers once again.
Authorities think the origin of the oil slick to be from a leakage in a big sea vessel or an oil tanker cruising offshore.
