Absence of nutrients from milk resulted in weakened resistance

PATTAYA: A four-month-old elephant passed away late Thursday night due to absence of nutrients after being conserved from serious injuries triggered by a snare and bullets last month.

Phadet Siridamrong, a vet at Nongnooch Garden, composed on his Facebook page that the infant elephant, called Phang Fasai, passed away at 9.45 pm on Thursday after an hour-long effort to conserve her life.

He stated after the serious injuries, the infant elephant had actually reacted well to treatment and slowly recuperated.

Nevertheless, she did not get nutrients from elephant milk. Personnel at Nongnooch Garden where she got treatment attempted to keep her alive till next month when 2 elephants at the garden would deliver and there would suffice milk for Phang Fasai.

The absence of nutrients damaged the resistance of the infant elephant and she began establishing illness in the intestinal system and food digestion system. She lastly passed away of intestinal failure, Mr Phadet stated.

On Nov 28, the infant elephant was rescued from a snare in a forest in Kaeng Hang Maew district of Chanthaburi.

Her left front leg was severely hurt and vets needed to later on amputate it. Besides, she sustained about 10 bullet injuries to the ideal front leg.
