More than 100 “Tuk-Tuk” chauffeurs opposed in Sriracha out of confusion over what insurance coverage they in fact require.
The motorized-tricycle chauffeurs handed a letter to the Chonburi Land Transportation Department grumbling about third-class insurance coverage now costing 5,000 baht a year when restoring obligatory insurance coverage and taxes.
Previous Sriracha MP Kwanlert Panitchmart, after consulting transportation authorities, informed the chauffeurs there had actually been a miscommunication. In reality, third-class insurance coverage is voluntary, not compulsory.
The Land Transportation Department stated transportation services not on repaired paths bring more than 7 or 8 individuals should have a public-transport license and regular automobile insurance coverage.
Kwanlert informed the chauffeurs that anybody who is informed they should buy the more-expensive insurance coverage must call him.
