Pattaya, Thailand— Wat Suthawas Temple in east Pattaya saw a big event of devout Buddhists coming together for a day of advantageous activities to commemorate Asalha Bucha Day and the day of going into the Rains Retreat (Khao Pansa).
This day holds unique significance as it celebrates the Buddha’s very first preaching in the Deer Park in Benares, India, and the starting of the Buddhist sangha about 2,500 years back.
Throughout the early morning of Aug 1, Buddhists went to the temple to look for true blessings from the resident monks, wishing success and auspiciousness. As the sun set, Wat Suthawas was brightened with the warm radiance of candle lights as the temple arranged an emotive candlelit procession around the primary ordination hall.
